If the Shoe Fits...Wear It

After searching long and hard, we have finally found a vacation that fits the Despain Family... Camping! This past week was Andy's fall break so we headed up into the North Carolina Mountains to Hanging Rock State Park. Not only was it peaceful but the fall colors were shining through on the trees and it was beautiful.

After finding the perfect spot...it was a little ways from the bathroom, but when you have two boys that can find a tree and one still in diapers it was worth the sacrifice of mom hiking to the restroom... we set up camp and the hammock to lounge around a little bit...uh tranquility (that is until both boys rolled out of the hammock onto their heads)...resiliency.With some time to spare before dinner we went on a short hike to Upper Cascades Falls. The boys got their first feel for cold mountain water, and Andy discovered his inner caveman /frontier man and proceeded to climb, jump, and scale any rock he could find.
DAY 2: The sun woke us up and we were ready to go...meaning Andy and I were ready to eat and the boys were ready to play in the dirt.
Our hike for the second day was a little more strenuous (on the way back that is, downhill on the way there was a piece of cake) but worth it as we discovered Window Falls. Andy and I loved watching the boys climb! Even Ezra at 14 months got around very well as we ventured off the path to find new territory and sights unseen. One of which gave us a beautiful view of the valley below.
I am showing Ezra that the rock is cold...he didn't seem to appreciate it.
In the late afternoon we were joined by 3 families and went down to the lake for the setting of the sun and some picturesque Autumn foliage.
We rediscovered our love for nature and the great outdoors and until Andy and I create a time machine to take us back 300 or 400 years ago we will go camping again...and again...and again.

You'll have to ask Andy how he and the 2 boys managed to get poop on their shoes while I went to the bathroom one morning!

Wow Anna, you took some amazing pictures. Do you have an awesome camera or are you guys just amazing photographers? It looks like you had a blast. I haven't been camping since girls camp, so needless to say, it has been a while. Your little family is adorable though. Oh, my husband went to Dallas for his job and he is going again in November. When are you moving there?

The leaves are perfect right now. Good for Andy attacking the rocks and good for you trying to have a teaching moment with Ezra---even though he wasn't very appreciative.
